Earthscope Workshop
Explore Central Great Plains Geology and Geophysics through the EarthScope Program
Wednesday-Friday, June 11-13, 2008

About Earthscope
EarthScope is a national, decade-long geoscience project to understand the North American continent.
Geophysical instruments will move across the continent, acquiring new information about continental evolution and structure. From 2009 through 2011 seismic instruments will be fully operational within the Central Great Plains, allowing us to better understand the structure of North America. Using seismic and real Global Positioning System (GPS) data in the classroom enhances students’ basic science skills as they explore multiple lines of evidence, visualize abstract concepts, and investigate and critically assess data gathered through the EarthScope program.
This is a great opportunity to learn about new and ongoing geological research that directly relates to the Central Great Plains!
About this Workshop
This workshop is offered by the EarthScope Program, IRIS, and UNAVCO, in partnership with the Nebraska Earth Systems Education Network (NESEN) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. It is designed to provide information, activities, and materials that you can use in the classroom to teach Earth and physical science.

- Friday: 8:00am-12:00pm, Participants Depart After Lunch
- Presenters:
- John Taber and Kelly Reeves-Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS)
- Shelley Olds and Celia Schiffman-UNAVCO, and Charlotte Goddard-EarthScope National Office (ESNO)
- Grade Level: Middle and High School Earth Science and Physical Science Teachers
